I have many Silver Certs and Fed notes but have no idea of the initials that are used, trying to grade them. I see all over different web sites like yours, Which I really like. I have both used, some what used, and many uncirculated, as well as singles and numerical. No star notes as yet, or the fancy other numerical ones, birthdates so many in a row thing..
As for the the Fed notes I have a packet new bills numerical all the 100. Though it was interesting to get them.
So for me trying to “rate” condition as it were is challenging.
I am having a web site built because these days it is harder to go them unlike what I was able to do in the 80’s building one with 80+ pages in three days. This co I am paying to do it has been at it for almost2 weeks, but I have the picture for it they are doing something else but forget what it is. though it is up there is nothing within yet.
Trying to get a feel of their value, now. I started collecting as a kid through the service and forgot about all I had until, Aug mid month and found most of it all. Been trying to add now because I got the bug again. LOL.
D you have a chart for abbreviations you show on here?
BTW, Yahoo is messing up my service as it were am having issued both sending and getting emails for two weeks now. Do have another email but not sure how to get it working both ways yet. Just got it.

Hi Scott — really appreciate your patience (promise we’re awake!) and thanks for the great background on your collection. Grading and all those initials can absolutely feel overwhelming, so here’s a quick cheat-sheet you can keep handy.
1) Common grade words ↔ numbers
P / Poor (1) – heavily worn, pieces missing.
FR / Fair (2) – very rough, all details flat.
G / Good (4–6) – major wear, tears/writing possible, design still identifiable.

EPQ (PMG) – Exceptional Paper Quality: original, unpressed paper with natural embossing/wave.
PPQ (PCGS) – Premium Paper Quality: same idea as EPQ for PCGS.
★ (PMG Star): exceptional eye appeal (often seen with Gem grades).
OBW – Original Bank Wrapper: a full, original strap of 100 consecutive notes.
Consecutive / Run / Strap / Brick: sequential serials; a brick is typically 10 straps (1,000 notes).
3) Common note types & abbreviations
FRN = Federal Reserve Note (modern U.S. notes).
SC = Silver Certificate (e.g., 1935/1957 $1’s).
LT / U.S. Note = Legal Tender (red seal).
GC = Gold Certificate (gold seal; do not clean or flatten!).
Star Note = replacement note (a ★ at the end of the serial number).
Mule = front/back plate varieties paired unusually (specialist area).

5) Self-grading checklist (fast and practical)
Folds & bends: Count main vertical/horizontal folds; AU can have one light fold, UNC should have none.
Paper look/feel: Original notes show embossing (you can often feel seal/serial impressions) and a slight “paper wave.” Pressed/cleaned notes look glassy/flat.
Centering & margins: Even borders add a lot of eye appeal (and grade).
Defects: note any pinholes, tears, writing, stains, counting marks, tape, or ink transfer.
Color & brightness: stronger inks and bright paper raise eye appeal.
6) About your specific mentions
Silver Certificates (1935/1957): most circulated examples sell only a little above face; UNC or star/fancy serials can bring more.
A “packet” of new consecutive FRNs (100 notes): keep the strap intact if possible. Full, original straps often bring a modest premium to collectors (the older or scarcer the denomination/series, the better).

7) Storage tips (value-friendly)
Store flat, cool, and dry; avoid rubber bands, paper clips, or tight albums.
