Hi Ken, thanks for sharing your note with us!
Your 2006 $50 bill with serial number II17764755A is a neat find, and I see why you noticed the “1776” in the middle. While collectors do sometimes look for serial numbers that tie into historical years like 1776, value usually comes when the whole serial is rare or forms a recognized “fancy number” pattern — for example, repeaters, radars, solid digits, ladders, or low serials.
In your case, the “1776” does stand out, but the rest of the digits don’t form a collectible pattern that would push value higher. The “4” (for July 4th) and “7” (for the 7th month) are fun coincidences, but collectors typically don’t pay a premium for them unless the entire number is strongly themed (like 17760704 for July 4, 1776).
Since your note is from a modern series and circulated, its value is usually just face value ($50). Still, it’s always fun to spot history in serial numbers — a good conversation piece, even if not a big-ticket collectible.
Thanks again for reaching out, and keep checking your notes — sometimes the next one could be a true fancy number!
O.K. thanks for getting back to me. I also have a $20.00 bill with two stars. I will get back to you with more info
