What are Star Note?
Replacement bills indicated by a star symbol at the end of the serial number instead of a letter. Any thoughts to this $5 minor circulation, but I’ve kept it flat in this thick transparent sleeve for years
Hi Jason — nice note. From the photo, this looks like a Series 2013 $5 rather than 2003. The serial number ML00001316H is the interesting part: it’s a low serial number with four leading zeroes.
It is not in the strongest low-number range like under 1,000 or under 100, but 1,316 is still collectible enough that some low-serial collectors may like it. Based on similar eBay listings/ended results, I’d think of it as a modest-premium note — roughly around $10–$20, maybe a little more if you find the right buyer.
I would not certify this one, since grading would likely cost more than the premium. Keeping it flat was a good move; just make sure the sleeve is PVC-free/archival-safe.
